Sula Nordic Songs in English, tunes from Scotland and Scandinavia
SULA is Latin and Faroese for the albatross of the
north – the gannet. This large seabird lives on the wing and on the
waves. Only to nest does it land on the rocky coasts that fostered this
music.
The trio SULA
is Eskil Romme (accordion), Kirstine Sand (fiddle and song) from
Denmark, and Rod Sinclair (guitar, banjo and song) from Scotland.
Sula began in 1989 at a Folk Festival on the Faroe Islands, and with a
few changes in line-up, have played in Denmark, Germany, England,
Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, Chile and Italy. 2009 sees Sula’s US
debut, plus tours to Scotland (Orkney Folk Festival), returns to Italy
and Chile, and a first visit to Argentina.
SULA’s musical trade marks are their
unique blend of traditional and newer Scots songs with Scandinavian
songs and tunes. What gives Sula’s music international appeal is the
beautiful old Nordic songs in English language versions. SULA renews
the ancient bonds over the northern seas with an energetic verve,
matching old and new, songs and tunes in new combinations based on deep
traditions.
